hitch-hiking

a rest area near Mt. Fuji

A young couple hitch-hiked from Kyoto to Hokkaido (which is 1,500 km away), and also from Hokkaido to Kyusyu (which are 3,000 km apart). They said that Japanese people were so kind; people gladly took them on at every rest area along the highways. Moreover, while waiting, people gave the couple food and candy. Once a family in a car even gave the couple money for lunch, because the family didn't have enough room to give them a ride! Money for lunch? What a surprise! As you can see in the picture, Japanese rest areas are gorgeous places.
