cesspool

Until around 40 years ago, there were some cesspools in Japan, which were used for aguricultural purposes. To my surprise, the things were the same in Europe, according to my student. Cesspools smelled bad and were insanitary. In addition, they were quite deep and dangerous for children. But the most miserable thing for children were that once a child fell into the cesspool, they would be known widely at school as a "pupil who fell into a cesspool". For children, it was so frightning.
