What is the image of a ghost in your country? In Japan, ghosts are thought to have no legs. The most common image of a ghost is a woman in white with black long hair. Maruyama, Okyo is a famous painter in the 18th century, who is said to have created this ghost without legs for the first time. Its image is now so widespread in Japan that when you see a ghastly or eerie figure of a woman on a desolate street at night, the first thing you do, in your fright, is to make sure whether she has legs or not!
