A few decades ago, it was difficult to explain what Japanese 'Oshiire' was. It is a kind of closet attached to a Japanese-style room with Tatami mats. It has sliding doors made of wood and paper and you usually put Futon, or Japanese-style beddings in it. Probably these explanation is confusing to foreign people. But do you know the anime 'Doraemon'? Since the time Doraemon became popular all over the world, all I have to say is, 'Oshiire is where Doraemon is!' Then most of the students understand quickly.
